Hoffman Bros., Inc. hires journeymen and non-journeymen trade workers. Apprenticeship positions are available on a limited basis:

We are seeking qualified applicants with a strong work ethic and positive attitude for positions related to road and bridge construction, earthmoving, site development, underground utilities, and other heavy civil construction.  We primarily hire for work in Michigan including Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Grand Rapids, and other areas of Michigan.

Job Duties:

  • Operating various heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, graders, front end loaders scrapers, haul trucks and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Communicate with crew members and supervisors to ensure jobsite safety, production and quality standards are met.
  • Willing to be flexible with last minute schedule and jobsite location changes as needed.
  • Other construction related duties as required.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years of road construction or similar heavy equipment operating experience is preferred.
  • CDL license is beneficial.
  • Other safety and/or technical training is beneficial.

Work Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
  • Strict Adherence to safety requirements, procedures, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
  • We require pre-employment as well as recurring random drug screening for all employees regardless of their role in the Company.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to the jobsite location.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires time spent walking, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and sitting.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a strong work ethic and ability to perform manual labor.

Work Environment:

  • This position involves outdoor work.  Candidates must be able to work extended/overtime hours on job sites in adverse weather conditions including heat, sun, cold and rain.

Pay and Benefits:

  • $24.40-36.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

  • Assist heavy equipment operators and other skilled personnel, as necessary.
  • Prep construction sites by clearing obstacles and hazards.
  • Load or unload construction materials.
  • Assist with underground pipe installation including checking grade and hand digging for underground utility lines.
  • Hand dig as necessary
  • Perform jobsite cleanup.
  • Communicate with crewmembers and supervisors to ensure jobsite safety, production and quality standards are met.
  • Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule, jobsite location and shift changes.
  • Overtime work is required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to the jobsite location.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • CDL license is preferred.

Education/Experience:

  • 1 or more years of road construction experience is preferred.
  • High School diploma is preferred.

Job Title: Estimator/Project Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and professional individual to join our Estimating and Management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for pursuing construction projects and managing them from estimation through final completion.

Job Duties:

  • Complete quantity takeoffs on assigned bids including earthwork takeoffs using Trimble Business Center (TBC)
  • Develop detailed cost estimates using B2W Estimate
  • Review each bid with a manager or peer group prior to submission
  • Complete project setup on successful bids
  • Prepare submittals, project schedules and permits as required
  • Manage documents using PlanGrid cloud
  • Work directly with project supervisors to ensure their success and the success of the project
  • Facilitate progress billing as required to ensure timely payments and positive cash flow
  • Review and approve subcontractor and vendor payments
  • Monitor contract progress including costs, cash flow and overall performance using various reports in B2W Track and Viewpoint Vista
  • Closely monitor progress against the project schedule through completion.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organization skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals inside and outside the organization
  • Strong computer skills including basic software such as Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Construction industry experience

Beneficial Qualifications:

  • Experience with B2W Software Estimate and Track, Viewpoint Vista, and Trimble Business Center (TBC) or other CAD software
  • Specific experience with excavating, grading, earthworks, and utility operations.
  • MDOT project experience beneficial

Salary:

  • Competitive salary: $75,000-$105,000
  • Commensurate with experience and negotiable
